After many years of work, what has been a dream is now a reality: spaces are being created to support families and youth in the South Bronx. YMPJ reclaims and activates space for the Bronx community. Whether it’s cleaning up the Bronx river, transforming Concrete Park into a place for gathering, turning abandoned spaces into places that grow food, or creating plans to turn an empty underpass in Soundview into an important social hub, YMPJ is transforming the community. Our work ensures that our communities in the South Bronx are strong, resilient, and can persevere! - “In the Bronx, a Push to Save Cass Gilbert’s Train Stations”YMPJ’s work on activating the abandoned train station on Westchester Ave next to Concrete Plant Park was recognized in the New York Times. “The concept preferred by Youth Ministries would be to rehabilitate the tower in place as an ennobling park entrance, while providing a lightweight, enclosed bridge and walkway into the park, where the waiting room would be rebuilt as a year-round events and education space.
