The Soundview Economic Hub

A community-led transformation of 37,500 square feet under the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx River Avenue area into a thriving center for food systems, health, entrepreneurship, and local economic development.
For over eight years, the Soundview, Bronx River, and Hunts Point communities—led by Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice (YMPJ)—have worked to reclaim and reimagine this underutilized space for community ownership and opportunity.

ABOUT THE SOUNDVIEW ECONOMIC HUB

The Soundview Economic Hub is a long-term, community-driven initiative transforming vacant infrastructure space into a productive, community-owned economic engine.
Led by Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, Inc. (YMPJ), this project addresses critical community needs in the South Bronx, including job training, business incubation, access to fresh and healthy food, and intergenerational programming.
At its core, the Hub sits at the intersection of food systems, health, and economic development—designed to support local residents, entrepreneurs, and food producers.

THE VISION

The Soundview Economic Hub is an innovative space activation project that transforms underutilized infrastructure into a thriving local economy.
Once fully developed, the space will serve as:

  • A food manufacturing and distribution hub
  • A small business incubator for local vendors and entrepreneurs
  • A training and education space for workforce development
  • A community-centered gathering and event space

This project is designed to stimulate long-term economic growth while ensuring community ownership and access.
